TIP # 1: How to Disable User Account Control (UAC) in Windows Vista

1. Click Start -> Control Panel

2. Choose User Accounts, and click Turn User Account Control Off.

3. At the UAC prompt, select Continue.

4. On the next screen, uncheck Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.

5. Click OK.

6. Restart your computer. UAC should be disabled

TIP # 2: Annihilate this Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista prompt!

Error: "The Publisher could not be verified"

1. Click Start -> Run

2. Type gpedit.msc

3. Click OK

4. Go to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Attachment Manager

5. Add *.exe to the "Inclusion list for moderate risk file types" setting.

6. Windows should no longer ask you if you want to continue when opening .exe files from a local or networked drive. Windows WILL continue ask you if you want to open executable files from the internet. This is for your computer's safety.

TIP # 3: Error running Outlook 2000 on Windows Vista

"An error occured while attempting to open the Windows Address Book. Unable to find the WAB DLL."

1. Click Start -> Search -> For Files or Folders...
2. Type wab*.* in the search field and click Search Now.
3. Look for wab32.dll and wab32res.dll and copy them into C:\Windows\system32.

Microsoft Outlook 2000 should no longer throw the error when attempting to access your address book on Vista.



TIP # 4: Outlook running very slowly

"Taking forever to load on startup"


1. Double click My computer > C: > Documents and Settings > Your username > Application Data > Microsoft > Outlook.
2. Locate a file named outcmd.dat, then right click on it and delete it.
3. At times this file may become corrupt and Outlook will begin to take longer and longer to load. Deleting this file will not disable Outlook. The file will be recreated the next time you open Outlook. The average size of the file should be less than 100Kb.

Microsoft Outlook 2000 should no longer throw the error when attempting to access your address book on Vista.

 


TIP # 5: Turn on/off Windows passwords - logon screen

Windows XP - solution 1:
Select Run from the Start Menu, type control userpasswords2, and click Ok.
Turn off the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer option, and click Ok.


Windows XP - solution 2:

If you have one user account and no password configured, Windows XP will log you in automatically. Otherwise, you'll have to do the following:

Obtain and install the Windows XP version of TweakUI.
Open TweakUI (it's in Start -> Programs -> Powertoys for Windows XP).
Expand the Logon branch, and click Autologon.
Turn on the Log on automatically at system startup option, type your username and password, and click Ok.


Windows 2000 - solution 1:

Double-click the Users icon in Control Panel, and choose the Users tab.
Turn off the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer option, and click Ok.

Windows 2000 - solution 2:

Double-click the System icon in Control Panel, and choose the Network Identification tab.
Click Network ID and follow the instructions on screen


TIP # 6: How to block internet access w/password protection

1. Open Internet Explorer

2. Click on the Tools Menu and go to Internet Options.

3. Click the "Content" tab and then click on "Enable".

4. Click the "General" tab. Under "User Options" make sure the second box is checked.
Now go create your password.
